Who We Are
UKirk is the national brand of the Presbyterian Church (USA)'s collegiate ministries. All over the United States, college ministries have adopted UKirk as their name. UKirk stands for University Church. Kirk is the Scottish word for church, and since Presbyterians have a strong Scottish heritage, the name UKirk seems appropriate, looking forward to the future of the church at universities, while still maintaining our Reformed heritage.
This is a safe place that is open, affirming, and willing to allow students to wrestle with their faith. We value tradition insofar as it allows us to interact with the living God: we pray, we sing, we read Scripture, we listen, we preach.
We worship Jesus Christ and value Scripture. We are a thinking church, making us a great place to explore your faith during college. We are a denomination that does not allow for easy answers, even when that means that we take the road less traveled. We interpret the Scriptures rather than viewing the Bible as black and white. We listen to what God has to say to us in the 21st century with very old words. We hope you consider us as your church home away from home, while you walk through what many call "emerging adulthood." Our leaders here remember college as an exciting transition between the familiarity of home and the new and exciting adventure of independence. We hope UKirk MSU is a place of friendship. We hope this is a place where you can serve. We hope this is a place where you can encounter God.
